Tax credits are ending and will be replaced by Universal Credit by 2024.

2. What is Universal Credit?

If you are in Northern Ireland, visit Universal Credit | nidirect

Universal Credit helps make sure you’re getting the financial support you are entitled to in one place.

It replaces six older benefits – child tax credit, working tax credit, housing benefit, income support, income-based job-seeker’s allowance (JSA) and income-related employment and support allowance (ESA) – with a modern system.

You can get budgeting support to help you make the change to Universal Credit, and you could apply for an advance payment to access money more quickly, to help keep everything on track.

If you’re a working parent, depending on your income, you could also get help with up to 85% of your childcare costs with Universal Credit.
